The U.S. State Department approves the potential sale of 100 Boeing-made (NYSE:BA) Harpoon Coastal Defense Systems to Taiwan in a deal valued at as much as $2.37B.
- The Harpoon system consists of up to 400 RGM-84L-4 Harpoon Block II Surface Launched Missiles and four RTM-84L-4 Harpoon Block II Exercise Missiles; also included are 411 containers, 100 Harpoon Coastal Defense System Launcher Transporter Units, 25 radar trucks, support and test equipment, personnel training and training equipment, and engineering and logistics support services.
- The move comes days after the U.S. approved the potential sale of three other weapons systems to Taiwan, which prompted a sanctions threat from China.
